stress reduction
The effects of gradual and consistent exposure to UV are very similar to those of exercise. One of these is stress reduction. Studies have shown that exposure to sunlight has a more relaxing effect upon patients than simply lying down and resting, and patients who are prescribed UV therapy report that it gives a feeling of well-being and enables them to sleep at night. This is most likely due to the hormonal changes brought about by UV exposure. Researchers find more adrenaline in specimen's adrenal glands after UV exposure, and note that this is beneficial in helping overcome stressful situations.
increased sex drive
Exposure to UV has been shown to increase testosterone in men and estrogen in women. When sunlight strikes the skin, it produces sex hormones in the skin itself. This is especially pronounced in men: when the chest or back is exposed, hormones can increase by 120%, and when the genital area is exposed, they can increase by up to 200%.
control depression/SAD
Many physicians use equipment similar to ours to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder, a form of depression which occurs in the darker, colder months of the year. UV exposure induces many hormonal and chemical changes in the body, and can alleviate the symptoms of the condition.
